Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.

Archimedes

Mathematician & Physicist

Archimedes statement demonstrates a profound understanding of the power of a lever. However the next question we often ask ourselves is which levers will create the greatest impact on an organisations performance and maximise forward momentum?

Great question … right? Or is it?

There is a flaw in this approach if it leads us to waste precious time and effort searching for “The Best“. In the current business world speed becomes a competitive advantage. Yes we must invest some of our time and attention to evaluating alternatives … This phase assessment phase must be time bound or else we risk “Paralysis by Analysis“.

Keeping our eyes on the outcome of improvement over perfection creates the momentum and habit of organisational optimisation.

Nike were onto something when they coined the slogan “Just Do it“. Taking conscious and deliberate action is key to progressive improvement. Don’t get stuck in the deliberation stage, only consistent and deliberate action … albeit imperfect at times will make our organisations more effective.

Embrace change … choose your change … be the change. Because it is inevitable that change will occur, it is so much better if we are the drivers of the change.

So go ahead and take hold of a lever and change your world.
