Change – A Tool OR Trouble ?

We hear the cliche “Change is innevitable”, and in our modern world the rate of change is accelerating.

Change can be a tool or it can be trouble, it is our choice to either work and embrace change or resist it innevitability.

How can change serve us, and create new opportunity?

Change can be a tool or it can be trouble, it is our choice to either work and embrace change or resist it innevitability.

What are some keys to working on the positive side of the inevitable changes within our organisations, our marketplace, from competitors, clients and suppliers?

  • Anticipation
  • Preparation
  • Planning
  • Adapation

Porters five forces is a helpful model to assess & anticipate sources of change that will impact our organisations. The Five Forces Model was created by Harvard Business School professor, Michael Porter. Five forces has become one of the most popular business strategy tools that organizations use to understand more about the main competitive forces at work in their industry.

In addition to Porters five components there are also internal change agents to consider such as staff, newly acquired skills or knowledge, along with new methods of client engagement.

  • Which areas are most likely to impact my organisation, positively or negatively?
  • What changes might I anticipate in the next 6, 12, 18 months?
  • Are their new methods or technologies I can embrace to create a competitive advantage or reduce the potential impact of threats?
  • Are there gaps in my knowledge or experience that reduce my ability to adapt?
  • Who can I collaborate with to gain insights into what’s possible?
  • Would introducing new technologies conserve resources, increase focus on core activities or reduce risks or their impact?
